Step-by-Step Guide to Installing Llama 3 on Your Local Machine

Welcome to this detailed guide on installing Llama 3 on your local machine. Since the release of Llama 3, many users have been eager to get it up and running on their computers. In this article, I’ll walk you through the steps I followed to successfully install Llama 3 on my own system.

How to use it locally with Ollama

There are several ways to run any LLM on your local machine.

I will use Ollama to run it. First, you need to install Ollama, which is available for macOS, Linux, or Windows. You can download it from this link: https://ollama.com/download

Once the installation is complete, open your terminal and run the following command:

ollama run llama3

It will commence the download and subsequently run the 7B model, quantized to 4-bit by default.

Congratulations, you can now access the model through your command line interface (CLI).

PS: If you prefer, you can also use a user interface, for example, Open WebUI.

See you soon!
